Build the Systems Behind California’s Most Iconic Structures
The Herrick Corporation is a leading structural steel fabricator and erector with a lasting imprint on the skylines of California and Nevada. Our portfolio includes hospitals, medical campuses, airports, data centers, stadiums, casinos, convention centers, and landmark commercial towers.
While we are not a software company, technology is mission-critical to our fabrication and erection of complex steel superstructures at scale. Our in-house Application Development team builds and maintains the custom platforms that power estimating, project management, fabrication, logistics, and field operations.
We are seeking a Senior Application Developer to lead a team of three developers and drive the next phase of our internal application ecosystem.
The Opportunity
This is a high-impact leadership role within a stable, established construction enterprise. You will operate at the intersection of technology and operations—partnering directly with management, project managers, and other stakeholders to design and deliver software solutions that improve efficiency, scalability, and data integrity across the organization.
You will serve as the technical lead for a small, agile team, owning architecture decisions, development standards, and modernization strategy—while remaining hands-on in full-stack development environment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
· Lead and mentor a team of three application developers.
· Establish and enforce development standards, documentation practices, and code quality benchmarks.
· Define architectural direction for new and existing systems.
· Drive modernization initiatives, including the evolution of legacy WinForms applications toward next-generation platforms.
Solution Architecture & Delivery
· Collaborate with subject matter experts across operations, fabrication, and project management to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
· Architect, design, and implement full-stack solutions from concept through deployment.
· Oversee testing, deployment, and end-user documentation.
· Identify opportunities to streamline workflows through automation and system integration.
Application Development
· Develop primarily in C# and T-SQL (Microsoft SQL Server).
· Design and maintain Windows Forms applications and REST-based integrations.
· Support and integrate third-party platforms with Herrick’s internal systems.
· Optimize database structures, queries, and performance across enterprise systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 6+ years of experience developing enterprise-grade applications using C# and Windows Forms.
- Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL.
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs.
- Proven ability to architect, document, and implement complex software solutions.
- Demonstrated experience leading projects or mentoring developers in a technical capacity.
What Sets This Role Apart
- Direct Business Impact: Your solutions will support projects that shape major metropolitan skylines.
- Leadership Without Bureaucracy: Lead a focused team with real autonomy and decision-making authority.
- Long-Term Platform Ownership: Influence the modernization roadmap of mission-critical internal systems.
- Stable Industry, Forward-Thinking Technology: Apply modern development practices within a high-performance construction environment.
Who Thrives Here
This role is ideal for a senior developer who:
- Wants to move beyond feature delivery into architectural ownership.
- Enjoys working directly with operational stakeholders.
- Can balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
- Seeks stability while still driving meaningful innovation.
